It was the revision time for us.. and it was the double digit numbered iteration this time! Before you start thinking about me as the nerd or geek, let me clear the air... it was the revision of the movie The Lion King! The movie never turns stale for a re-watch! Every time I watch the movie, a new dimension of the a profound lesson of life pops up, making the re-watch immensely worthwhile! This time the song, "Hakuna Matata" triggered the chain reaction. As a peaceful out come of this exploding reaction in my mind, I realized that the soul also needs a supply of rejuvenation, oxygen to be precise, from time to time at different stages of life path. It is none other than the friends, their company that does it for us! The medicines, the therapies may help you heal physically, but the soul at times needs a dose of tranquility, peace, which no 'pathy' on earth can prescribe. And friends need no formal degree to gauge the infection that your soul might have contacted! The solutions then galore and soon you find yourself back on track!
Humming Hakuna Matata, my mind started wandering in the lanes and by lanes of the memory. Here I was, jumping on the guava tree with my friends. The guava appeased our senses and satiated our between the meals hunger. Was guava more testier or it was the company of the friends that made it so, I wondered! Plucking that ripe guava on a far off and tender branch, never then remained the challenge, but just a matter of reaching out! One of the first lessons in the survival kit of life, "There is a trophy for those who dare to go ahead!", was authored by the company of friends.
From not so far off memory, I could hear a call by the dear friend. Here, I was, lying on the road with a bruised knee and the elbow. The bicycle that I was riding has departed me and lay topsy-turvey, a little bit ahead. It was a miserable fall in the ditch that had got me on the threshold of crying out loud. A helping hand and big grin got me on my feet. " Humpty dumpty had a great fall...hahahaha. Get up and get riding Humpty Dumpty!" A hearty laughter that followed was the balm to the bruised body and the sunken soul! " Just go on with life. Don't stop" was the lesson that was added to my life's survival kit!
Zoom ahead in the time machine and here I was standing in front of the notice board of my college. It was the result day of the first year of engineering. I was anxious to know how I had fared? My heart was pounding so heavily that I could not hear the hustle and bustle near the board. There were many like me, who were eager too! I was struggling to get near the board to find my roll number in the list. I got a pat on my back. As I turned around, here was a friend with a smile. "Why are you in such a great hurry... result sheets are not going to disappear from notice board so soon!" That made sense. And then here I was walking towards the canteen with my friend. Over the cutting chai (half cup of tea) and a smosa, the anxiety melted away. "Take a pause, don't fret over the future unnecessarily", was another lesson that was added to my survival kit, courtesy my friend! Such a breather after all!
Little ahead in the life's journey, I could see abundance of the oxygen supply to my depressed soul, bored soul, puzzled soul, troubled soul and even the ecstatic soul. Every time the life's path took a turn and I bounced back to life, I was fortunate to have a constant supply of oxygen for my soul... none other but my friends. Some strayed away, some stayed back, some joined me new and some got reunited again...giving me assurance that supply of oxygen for my soul will never stop!
My oxygen cylinders are filled and ready to use... how about you?
