"Vidhi, Pray to God, before leaving for your exam........", this is what I shouted from the kitchen while she was about to go to school.
This is the traditional ritual which was followed by our family. To pray and to remember God before any exams, or on facing problems and even when we start anything afresh....
My grandmother always used to say.....Prayer will give you immense power. Being kids we used to feel magical that if we pray, all our problems will be solved. I will get good marks.....if i go to temple, or if i haven't done my homework and teacher is absent...then my prayers have reached God. Fancies of the kid's world!
I would like to share one incident.....
I have two brothers, both are elder to me. We used to go to same school. The only difference was the eldest one had morning school and rest of us, me and the other bro, had afternoon one. We both were very jealous of him as he used to get more time to play than us........So one day out of anger and innocence we decided to come back home from school. Excuses worked hardly for a day or two and then the bus driver denied us to take back home.
On the third day, we decided to go back home walking. Let me tell you... our school was almost 12 kms away from our house. After walking for half an hour we thought.......what if our tiffins are full??? Mamma sure will have a doubt...that we haven't attended the school........How kiddish isn't it? So we sat on a bench outside the temple. While having our tiffin we saw our uncle and my dad passing by on a scooter......may be they must have gone to the nearby bank........And to our Bad Luck.....they caught us.
Now what???? Without even saying a single word we went home and during that whole period we both were continuously praying to God..............Please Save us!!! You know what??? That day all my beliefs were shattered!!! Prayer is no barter system with God, was the lesson that dawned to me.
The first thing we got when we reached home was.....No marks for guessing it right! A TIGHT SLAP ON BOTH OUR CHEEKS .....they turned dark pink as if we have overdone our makeup. The first thought that came was What did God do for me??? I prayed again and again to save me!!
Sounds kiddish , but as an adult now I can understand the Power Of Prayer.
To me, that Silence of few seconds and a small talk to self gives me Confidence and Peace. Confidence to do the Best and leave the rest and to be at peace to stay calm in any adverse situation.

Sometimes, I lose my faith in prayers but then I am kind of addicted so i will go again and start praying, maybe it is because prayer gives hope

DeleteEnjoyed reading your post! My parents sound like your Grandmother. They truly believed in the power of prayer - especially when it came to health and well-being. Knowing someone is praying and thinking about you can provide a lot of comfort.

Prayers are my way of putting down things I really need, or need to let go or things I am grateful for.
